PlainBill translates Texas state and federal legislation into plain language that anyone can understand. We believe an informed citizenry is the foundation of democracy, and that starts with making laws readable.

How It Works

  • Bill Ingestion: We pull bills nightly from Open States (Texas legislature) and Congress.gov (federal).
  • AI Summarization: Each bill is summarized by AI (Claude by Anthropic) at a 6th-grade reading level with key points, who it affects, and arguments both for and against.
  • Location Matching: Your zip code maps to your congressional and state legislative districts so you see the bills and representatives that matter to you.
  • Citizen Drafting: Our guided workshop helps you turn your ideas into properly formatted legislation and connect with your representative.

Nonpartisan Commitment

PlainBill is strictly nonpartisan. Our AI summaries are written to present facts and both sides of every issue. We never take positions on legislation or endorse candidates. Every summary includes arguments both for and against so you can form your own opinion.
